Fishing can be exciting, relaxing, and rewarding all at once, but if you want to make the most of your trip, you need the right equipment. More than a rod and reel, you need a tacklebox full of useful gadgets and tools to ensure you bring in a catch or two! We here at Tractor Pros want to help you on your next fishing trip, so we’ve put together some of the essentials you’ll need in your tackle box. If you want to know more, contact our store in St. Albans, West Virginia, today!

A Variety Of Lures

Lures are, obviously, what entices the fish to bite. Different lures attract different fish, so it’s important to have a variety in your tacklebox so you’re prepared for any fish you go for. You’ll want minnow imitations, top-water lures, spinners, and spoons, to name just a few.

Bobbers

Also called floaters, bobbers rest on the surface of the water to help you see when something pulls on your line. If it bobs, it’s game on! You’ll want a variety here as well, including the classic red-and-white bulbs and slip-bobbers. For those who don’t have either, a piece of cork with a stick through it will work just as well.

Sinkers

While the bobber keeps part of your line near the surface, sinkers make sure your lure gets a bit deeper. Make sure you have extras, since these can be easy to lose. Most are made from steel, bismuth, tungsten, and brass, but some older ones are made from lead. These are now banned in many places due to their toxicity, so check local laws before bringing a lead sinker.

Needle-Nose Pliers

This small tool takes up little space and has many uses, particularly for getting hooks out of fish you bring in. They can also bend wires or remove other small items. Make sure to bring one on your next excursion!

Extra Line And Cutters

Whether it gets caught, cut, or bitten, you’re always going to need more fishing line. If your line gets tangled and you don’t have some backup line in your tacklebox, your fishing trip ends early. You’ll also want a line cutter to help you get rid of tangled line easier.

First Aid Kit

As calm as fishing can be, there’s still plenty that could go wrong, from fishing hooks going places they shouldn’t to normal falls and cuts. You’ll want a first aid kit with:

  • Bandages of several sizes
  • Gauze
  • Waterproof medical tape
  • Tweezers
  • Ointments
  • Antiseptic
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Nail clippers
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Painkillers
  • Antacids
  • Whatever else seems useful!
